چکیده

Abstract Deep Springs Valley (DSV) is a hydrologically isolated valley between the White and Inyo mountains that commonly excluded from regional paleohydrology paleoclimatology. Previous studies showed uplift of ridge (informal name) by fault defeated streams crossing DSV sometime after eruption Pleistocene Bishop Tuff (0.772 Ma). Here, we present tephrochronology clast counts reaffirms interruption Pliocene–Pleistocene hydrology formation during Pleistocene. Paleontology infrared stimulated luminescence (IRSL) dates indicate freshwater lake inundated ca. 83–61 ka or Late Marine Isotope Stages 5a (MIS 5a; 82 peak) 4 4; 71–57 ka). The age pluvial Lake coincides with lakes in Owens Columbus Salt Marsh documents greater effective precipitation southwestern North America MIS 4. In addition, hypothesize was balanced-fill overflowed into Eureka via Soldier Pass wind gap has implications for dispersal endemism black toad ( Anaxyrus exsul ).

Digital Method for Regional Mapping of Surficial Basin Deposits in Arid Regions, Example from Central Death Valley, Inyo County, California

Derivative maps generated from DEM's and panchromatic remote sensing data (TM Landsat 7 or SPOT) can be used to characterize surficial basin deposits in arid regions dominated by basin and range topography. Results indicate the technique is useful for rapid digital mapping of surficial deposits where a first order, systematic subdivision of bedrock, alluvial fan units, and playas is unavailable...

Effects of projected climate change on the hydrology in the Mono Lake Basin, California

The Californian Mono Lake Basin (MLB) is a fragile ecosystem, for which a 1983 ruling carefully balanced water diversions with ecological needs without the consideration of global climate change. The hydroclimatologic response to the impact of projected climatic changes in the MLB has not been comprehensively assessed and is the focus of this study. Downscaled temperature and precipitation proj...

Chronology of latest Pleistocene lake-level fluctuations in the pluvial Lake Chewaucan basin, Oregon, USA

New accelerator mass spectrometer radiocarbon ages from gastropods in shore deposits within the pluvial Lake Chewaucan basin, combined with stratigraphical and geomorphological evidence, identify an abrupt rise and fall of lake level at ca. 12 14C ka. The lake-level high is coeval with lake-level lows in the well-dated records of palaeolakes Bonneville and Lahontan, and with a period of relativ...

Desert Springs of the Australian Great Artesian Basin

The Great Artesian Basin (GAB) underlies about one fifth of mainland Australia. Much of this area is arid or semiarid and often artesian water is the only reliable source of potable water, historically via springs. Prior to the 1870s, there were around 3,000 flowing springs ringing the GAB. The springs were a vital source of water for Aborigines as well as early explorers, workers and pastorali...
